Bio

Natasha Burns was born in Portsmouth and took her first piano lessons at the age of 4. Having developed a passion for music at a young age, Natasha was given the opportunity to perform at many venues across the south, including St. John’s Cathedral, Portsmouth Cathedral, Ferneham Hall, Portsmouth Central Library’s Arts Centre, Bournemouth Pavillion, and the Nuffield Theatre, to name but a few. In 2006, Natasha received a full scholarship to study both piano and voice at South Downs College, under Valentina Seferinova, Peter Rhodes, Lynette Elliot-Oruc and Ian Schofield. While studying at the College, Natasha was awarded the George Edwards Award for Musicianship. Before leaving the college, Natasha achieved Grade 8 in Piano, Voice and Theory, as well as her DipABRSM diploma in piano performance.

Natasha studied at University of Surrey from 2009, graduating with a BMus (Hons) in July 2012. While studying there, she had piano lessons with Clive Williamson, Maureen Galea and Emilie Crapoulet. In 2011, Natasha attended a masterclass with internationally acclaimed pianist Nikolai Demidenko, during which she was praised for her musical playing. While studying in Guildford, Natasha was an active member of the University’s musical community, being a member of the University Choir, University Chamber Choir and a founding member of the University Gospel Choir. While at University, she enjoyed many performance opportunities around the area, including in Guildford Cathedral, Guildford Electric Theatre, Guildford’s Holy Trinity Church and the Ivy Arts Centre.

As part of her degree, Natasha did in-depth studies on piano practice and performance techniques under Clive Williamson; the influence of folk music on the compositions of Bela Bartok under the supervision of Stephen Downes and a 4-month long study into the life and works of Gustav Mahler alongside internationally reknowned expert Jeremy Barham.

Since moving back to Portsmouth in Summer 2012, Natasha has continued her voice studies under Vocology in Practice Mentor, Christopher Johnson, and is now training to become an authorised instructor.

Natasha is a much in demand teacher in schools across Portsmouth and Southampton, as well as privately, for voice, piano and theory lessons.
